If you find the bird at the top of the Rope Runner Pro is not springing back like it did when it was new or it has developed an audible squeak, it likely needs to be cleaned. This video offers a quick but detailed review of how to clean and lubricate your Rope Runner Pro. See below for written step-by-step instructions.

  • Evaluate the spring in the bird by pressing down on top of the bird
  • Slowly release the bird
  • Observe spring recoil
  • If there is absolutely no recoil the Rope Runner Pro should be returned to the manufacturer for evaluation
  • If the unit springs back but with reduced speed or distance, clean and lubricate the device as outlined below.

    • Spay inside the lubrication port hole (if present)
    • This may need to be repeated few times depending on the severity of the debris build up
  • Test the function of the bird as listed above.
    • If the bird spring has improved proceed to lubrication
    • If the spring has not improved return the unit to the manufacturer for evaluation
  • Allow the unit to completely dry
  • Apply 3-IN-OIL or similar lubricant to the side plates of the bird
    • Spray inside the lubrication port hole (if present)
  • Wipe off excess lubricant

  • Perform “Function Principle & Load Test” as stated in the user manual
  • Always test the Rope Runner Pro before each use

Why WD40?
Any solvent cleaner, when rinsed, and then lubricated, works well. WD40 is a solvent. Therefore, it cleans well. It does not lubricate like an oil, so we recommend cleaning with WD40 and then lubricating with machinery oil.

What oils will work for lubrication?
Any machinery oil using silicon, grease, Teflon or graphite is appropriate use for lubrication. We recommend 3IN1 oil.
